Sen & Ling in Bali

Senyo and Ling vacationed in Bali, Indonesia, in February 2006. Sen's grandfather on his mother's side, Rene Diets, is 100% Indonesian, having moved to the United States after a brief time in the Netherlands in the 1950's. Opa (Rene) and Oma live in Ojai, California, not far from Santa Barbara.

Our 17 Rai Riceland

Our 17 Rai Riceland outside the family village of Nong Soong Pleui. A rai is a "traditional unit of land area in Thailand. The rai is now considered to equal exactly 1600 square meters, which is 0.16 hectare or approximately 0.3954 acre. The rai is divided into 4 ngan. The unit is called the hai in northern Thailand and the lai in Laos. The word means "field," that is, an upland field rather than a rice paddy." (http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/dictR.html)

Scotty and Rose

Our good friends Scotty & Rose, from Udon Thani, Isaan. Scotty was a jet mechanic for Northwest Airlines, who retired in the Isaan in early 2005. Rose (Rot) is an Isaan girl, like Thip.
