John Gale's father John Gale sr. and John Gale's brother Mark I knew way more than I wish I did. Suitcases full of money Airplanes stolen in the '80s from my long time friend by John Gale sr.. Both planes were used as mules between Mexico and California. One a cessna 210 turbo crashed landed in the desert all the seats out with residue of Marijuana, landing gear up, blood on the control stick and no one around. the other was a 421 Cessna twin all gutted for transport also belly landed and then burned up. Got back the wheels and engines. funny no insurance on either plane. This dear acquaintance of jJohn Gale Sr. supplied both his uninsured planes for money and gold. He still has the gold from Afghanistan. And how about the Carrabella motorcycles in OC brought in from Mexico all unassembled with the frame tubes lying all over the warehouse. Mark Gale used to race the motorcycles. I still know about the land in Laguna Nigel used by John Gale Sr. To trade for using by a fake theft of both planes of my 35 year friend I wont name, also giving him gold. I dont know what the statute of limitaions are on grand theft and racketeering but to see him with the property and gold still and now John Gale Sr. dead 3 years ago in Boise Idaho, however his son Mark in still living quite nicely in Naples Idaho and My long time friend and close friend of John Gale Sr. still living with all that money Gold and Property. Well, It stinks. I think Mark was just used and was a real nice guy I knew him well, and boy did he live well from all that drug money from his brother and father. I know too much more to talk about here but there is one guy the one who flew Gale sr. around in his planes that were eventually used for transporting the drugs and still has the land and gold for it. That I would like see have to cough it all up. The guy is a rich doctor who let others to believe he was a philanthropist. I hate liars who profit off of appearing as saints.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454904.post-3570317878473495732010-04-28T10:06:23.664-07:002010-04-28T10:06:23.664-07:00I grew up in south Mission Beach and went to PB jr...I grew up in south Mission Beach and went to PB jr high. Mike was two grades ahead of me there. We knew a lot of the same people in the early beach cuture of La jolla, PB and Mission Beach, and I knew Mike just from seeing him around and in the water. I started surfing the same year 1958, but in the 60s really got into beach volleyball and didn't focus on surfing as much. Although I got back into surfing in 1989 and at 65 now, still surf everyday it's any good.
I was always a fan of Mike's surfing skills and classic style on a longboard. when I saw the "Endless Summer" I would often fantasize about being Hynson like. He had the perfect image and cool factor that defined surfing and being a surfer at the time.
I just read his book, and really enjoyed it, since I knew, and knew off, many of the people he wrote about. Also, I lost track of Mike's career and life when I moved to San Francisco, and the book was truly revealing and entertaining telling about his radical lifestyle and embracing of the counter culture, while still being a part of the surf culture elite.
I saw Mike recently at a surfboard show and we talked briefly about golf, I'm not sure that he recognized me, but he was very gracious and acted like he did. He still makes fabulous boards. I especially like his epoxy boards for Boardworks.
Although he had some rough times in the 90's and the acid from the 60's and 70's surely diminished his potential, (I suspect he wouldn't agree with this) he seemed to be back in control with his life and stature as a living surf legend and board shaper.
Unlike Dora, Hynson is a survivor and although he didn't seem to maximize the potential his natural gifts of surfing skills and good looks offered him, he has certainly experienced a life worth writing about.alan segalnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454904.post-50127973693975230042010-03-20T07:56:08.487-07:002010-03-20T07:56:08.487-07:00My Dad Neil Purcell is a Hero..
