Kemp was an early idol of mine, and later I was fortunate enough to consider him a friend at UCSB. He, along with Dora, epitomized the ultimate in late 50s/early 60s surfing style to me. However, Kemp was a genuinely nice person… a gentleman. One correction: there was one additional surf shop he forgot to mention. My first surfboard was a 9' balsa from the Greg Noll shop in 1959. There were some real characters (including Greg) at that shop. As a 14 year old at the time, I found their behavior phenomenally astonishing and most entertaining. What a time!
