Sandwich Island Girl

In 2006, a cover and short column in an 1888 New York "Police Gazette" had the surf historian community a'buzz.

"The Sandwich Island Girl" story is one that -- so far -- cannot be confirmed nor denied.

It is significant for us surfing historians and writers of surfing history because, at minimum, it is the first known, printed image of a surfer in the United States.
